SDBS Purpose


The San Diego Bead Society provides the community an educational resource in the artistic, historical, and intercultural significance of beads and related crafts.



SDBS Directions


The San Diego Bead Society meets the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10:00am (excluding July and December) at the Mingei International Museum.

Directions to the Mingei Museum in Balboa Park:


From the North: 
Take the Airport/Sassafras exit from 1-5 South; continue to Laurel Street, turn left, stay in right lane; continue east on Laurel (after Sixth Avenue, Laurel becomes El Prado); cross bridge and go straight to museum. 

or 

Take the 163 Freeway South to Park Blvd. exit; turn left onto Park; go to Presidents Way, turn left; at stop sign turn right; continue to museum. 

From the South: 
Take the 1-5 to 163 North. Follow it to Zoo/Museums exit (Richmond St.). The ramp becomes Upas St. Continue on Upas to Park Blvd.; turn right and go to Presidents Way; turn right and go to stop sign; turn right; continue to museum. 

City Bus: 
Take the #7 from Broadway/ Downtown and ride directly to Balboa Park. Free Balboa Park Tram: From Sixth Ave. or Park Blvd. Ride the Tram throughout the park. Tram starts/ ends at the Naval Hospital parking lot on Park Blvd.
